Laws

Virginia has laws related to data collection in the context of education, which includes language that could allow for disaggregation, but does not require it.

For example, VA ST § 22.1-279.10 (school resource officers): “Such data shall (i) be published in a manner that protects the identities of students and (ii) be disaggregated by local school division and by student age, grade, race, ethnicity, gender, and disability, if such data is available.”

Bills

HJR 568

HJR 568 introduced in 2021 would have ordered a study on preventing young girls who are abuse victims from entering the juvenile justice system; it would have disaggregated data by sexual orientation and gender identity. The resolution did not pass.
